It’s a simple change, but it’s a going to be a very popular one. iOS 5 beta 3 was released yesterday. Part of the update allows the setting of custom tones for messages, emails, voicemails, tweets and more.
The number of standard tones in iOS 5 is greater than what we’ve currently got in iOS4 – given the possibilities of this customisation there it needs to be. It could be argued that Apple is bowing to popular demand implementing this change, although this addition to functionality has been added silently by Apple, but let’s not forget the opening it gives them to make more money through the sales of custom tones via iTunes.
iOS 5 is expected to be final and available this autumn; until then the beta testing continues for participants of Apple’s Dev programme.
