In front of an excited and eager audience, plus an extended audience worldwide via the many live blog sites, Steve Jobs today conducted Apple’s 2010 Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) keynote speech which included revealing the hotly anticipated new iPhone.  A wholly remarkable device when you look at what it brings to the mobile marketplace.  Let’s take a brief look at the device that I for one, am dying to hold in my own hands on the 24th June!

Apple’s own iPhone page was updated within an hour of the keynote speech completing.  It contains the full breakdown of features, looks and feel of the 4th generation handset, simply named, “iPhone 4“.  I speculated earlier today about the most likely name based on the Internet rumour mill; thankfully neither was right since both were misleading.  Whilst I don’t want to drive traffic away from ‘last place on the net‘ I’d be doing things an injustice if I tried to do the same as other sites and tell you everything here.  So when you’ve finished reading here, please, I implore you, take a look for yourself and be amazed.  In the meantime, lets look at the highlights:

The iPhone 4 is much thinner then it’s predecessors.  It’s also a little taller.  Buttons aren’t hidden, but compliment the case with their design instead.

The rear lens has been upgraded to 5 megapixels and is now accompanied by an LED flash.  New to the iPhone is a front facing 2 megapixel camera since Apple have taken a giant leap forward by evolving the iPhone to include iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 video calling.

Operating System

Renamed and packed with new features.  It’s now called iOS 4 rather than OS4.  Coupla key changes are Bing can be used for search and iBooks are coming to the iPhone.

Remember that lovely new processor Apple produced for the iPad?  It’s in the iPhone 4 and it means business.  Powerful, yet not power hungry.  To compliment it is the addition of a 3 axis gyroscope.  That’s going to lead to some serious cool games and apps!

Space & connectivity

Shipping in 32Gb and 64Gb editions, either in black or white, these delightful devices now have .n wireless capabilities!

I had a wild guess about pricing previously.  Devices are a very affordable $199 for a 16GB version and $299 for 32GB.  The 3G handset is being retired and the 3GS lowered to just $99.  There’s no word on pricing for the rest of the world just yet.

You can pre-order your device on the 15th June, and you’ll be able to love, nurture and enjoy your new delight from the 24th June.

Round up

I haven’t been as excited about a new iPhone since I first decided I was going to have one in the first place.  The anticipation I had prior to getting my iPhone 3G was huge.  The 3GS felt like a disappointment and I wasn’t unhappy when they were released (since I couldn’t have upgraded to one).  This time round I’m desperate for release date to get here so I can have a new iPhone!  How about you, ready to place an order?
